2013's Confed Cup served up some delightful action as Spain Uruguay and Nigeria were pitted together in a group, as too were Italy, Brazil and Mexico. This tournament undoubtedly mattered the most to Brazil as they got to test themselves against some of the world’s best sides in a competitive environment for the first time since 2011. Much wass expected of them at their home tournament and they delivered slaying all before them, and Tahiti.
Those of you who remain unconvinced of it as a format need to cast your mind back to 2009 when Spain got schooled by the USA in the semis and Brazil won a hectic final 3-2, it was cracking stuff and helped make that summer a smidge more bearable as the inevitable wait for the season to begin again wore on. 2013's instalment was even better as over 4 goals per game were scored on average and there was some exceptional play on display.
